Frequently Asked Questions

Can everyone be hypnotised?

85% of people will respond at some level to hypnosis. It is not something ‘done to you’ like surgery; it is a process in which the client participates.

Is it suitable for everyone?

Hypnosis can be used for almost everyone, however there are some exceptions, including children under the age of eight, people with certain medical conditions, and those whose mental capacity is impaired by drugs or alcohol. We can talk in complete confidence at your first telephone call if you have any concerns.

Is it safe?

Hypnosis is non-addictive and safe, with no unpleasant side effects.

What does it feel like?

The experience is different for everyone, for example, it has been described to me by various clients as like day-dreaming; dozing; being fully wide-wake; being more alert than usual; being pleasantly relaxed.

Will I be aware of what is happening?

Yes, hypnosis is not sleep; you will remain alert yet relaxed. You can scratch an itch, cough, settle into the chair, all the things you would do in your own armchair!

What if there was an emergency situation, could I move quickly?

Yes! You will always be aware of your own safety and could move out of the chair in an instant!

Can I be made to do or say something against my will?

Absolutely not. You remain in control and aware all the time.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on why you are coming to see me; we would discuss the optimum number of sessions for you. However, for example, one session would be usual for stopping a habit like smoking, or nail-biting, or for preparing to attend an event that might be stressful such as an examination or presentation. Dealing with phobias, weight management, anxiety and general confidence issues may take two to four sessions. If you have unexplained infertility and you are planning IVF treatment, we would co-ordinate the optimum number of sessions to complement your treatment. Occasionally clients may have to deal with deep-seated issues which require more sessions.

What level of training have you had?

My training took place over a period of 18 months at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis (LCCH). I have been a practising Clinical Hypnotherapist since 2002. Since then I have attended many master classes as part of my continuing professional development.
